M&M Meat Shops Among
Canada's 50 Best Managed Companies for the Third Time
Canada’s Leading Frozen Food Retailer’s Outstanding Customer Service and
Superior Products Are Key Factors To Company’s Success
M&M Meat Shops, the Kitchener ON-based company that has been helping families serve up convenient food options while keeping strong ties to the community for more than 25 years, has recently been named one of the 50 Best Managed Companies in Canada for the third time since 2001.
“M&M Meat Shops is honoured to be recognized again for this prestigious award,” says Mac Voisin, Founder and Chairman of M&M Meat Shops. “We have always been committed to building a responsible business that takes the needs of our franchisee network and strong customer base to heart, and we are grateful to be ranked among such a strong group of successful and progressive Canadian organizations.”
Established in 1993, Canada's 50 Best Managed Companies competition is the country’s leading business awards program, recognizing excellence in Canadian-owned and managed companies with revenues over $10 million. M&M Meat Shops competed in the 50 Best Managed Companies program among hundreds of respected Canadian organizations who were evaluated on the calibre of their management abilities and practices. Winning organizations were chosen based on their performance, job creation and their ability to achieve sustainable growth, among other fundamental criteria.
“We have come a long way and are proud of what we have accomplished in our 26 year history. In our application, we wanted to provide a snapshot of our
unique culture, our superior products and our overall customer service as the backbone of our success,” says Gary Decatur, President and COO of M&M Meat Shops. “We are evaluated on our management practices, and we consider our franchisees and employees to be our most valuable asset. We know a lot of companies make that statement, but in our case it’s true.”
A retail concept that was born at a backyard barbecue in Kitchener, Ontario in 1980, M&M Meat Shops has become a Canadian retail icon. It has evolved into one of the most relevant and successful franchised businesses in the country. From its humble beginnings, the company has grown to over 430 stores across Canada to offer its customers hundreds of convenient meal ideas in one aisle.
M&M Meat Shops is dedicated to offer services that large, box store retailers cannot. Trained Product Consultants give each customer one-on-one attention and help them select from more than 425 products that allow them to spend less time in the kitchen and more quality time with family and friends.
M&M Meat Shops is committed to building a strong community and supports a wide range of local charities in the communities in which it does business. A strong and committed network of franchisees is encouraged to support community-based charities and programs, from non-profit organizations to school programs and amateur sports teams. On a corporate level, M&M Meat Shops supports the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada (CCFC).
M&M Meat Shops’ largest fundraising event is Charity BBQ Day, which was started in 1989 by Founder Mac Voisin, and is a chain-wide event that raises funds for CCFC. Since its inception, the event has helped raise more than $12.5 million for research into Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis.
