It’s our people.
We’ve always thought of ourselves as a friendly, people-oriented company. And, this is exactly what we’ve been since the company’s start in 1980. It’s a way of doing business that agreed with founder,
Mac Voisin.
Mac has often said that having the right people in the key M&M positions, and acknowledging their efforts, is what made M&M so successful. For M&M, this has been a key approach to doing business. The reward of this corporate culture is that M&M Meat Shops has a much higher employee retention rate than the industry average. People enjoy their jobs at M&M, and feeling appreciated and respected is a huge part of the reason why.

It’s our core values.
Our values are simple yet effective:
- Provide outstanding customer service
- Conduct ourselves with integrity, honesty and respect
- Offer quality products at reasonable prices
- Provide a creative, fun and exciting work environment
- Develop people in a team atmosphere
- Support charity and community involvement
It’s our company philosophy.
We believe our customers are number one. We know many companies make this claim, but for us it’s not simply something we do, it’s a part of who we are as a company. It’s this exceptional customer service that sets M&M apart in the highly competitive food industry – we know our customers by name, we know their busy lifestyles and offer them helpful meal and entertaining ideas, and we treat them as part of our M&M family. That’s the difference between a routine shopping trip and an enjoyable shopping experience, and it’s what brings customers back to M&M time and time again.
It’s our training programs.
If we want to offer the best customer service possible, then we have to make sure we know how to do just that. That’s why we go to great lengths to offer the best training programs, seminars, courses and informational packages possible to our Franchisees and their Product Consultants. And, we spend a lot of time developing and fine-tuning these training programs so that we can maintain our high levels of in-store excellence, as well as employee satisfaction.
It’s our commitment to our communities and local charities.
We aim to create enthusiasm and excitement for employees and consumers within all the communities where M&M lives. Charity BBQ Day is perhaps our most high profile event. In fact, it’s Canada’s largest barbecue party! Since 1988, Charity BBQ Day has raised over $14 million for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada (CCFC) for research programs into inflammatory bowel diseases.
M&M also hosts National Family Dinner Night, Customer Appreciation Day and Red Nose Day every year. These programs are designed to let everyone know that M&M Meat Shops is dedicated to our communities and our customers – and also that we’re not afraid to have a little fun.

M&M is rooted in the communities that support us. Our stores support a long list of local charities, events and groups in their respective towns and cities. Take a look around your town – we’re sure you’ll see M&M out and about in the community.
It’s the little extras we offer.
M&M is a franchise-based company – stores are owned by Franchisees and their employees are given the title of Product Consultant. We chose the name Product Consultant because we feel everyone who works behind the counter is a “consultant” to our customers. They offer meal advice, entertaining ideas and product information, allowing customers to make more informed purchasing decisions. We want M&M customers to be happy with what they buy – it’s as simple as that.
We routinely offer incentive programs to reward and recognize the talents of our Product Consultants behind the counter. Rewards can range from M&M branded items to monetary bonuses and other gifts. Regardless of the reward, it’s important to us that our Product Consultants know their efforts are appreciated and respected.
We also offer Product Consultants and Franchisees a discount at any M&M Meat Shops location: 15% at their own store and 10% at all other stores. Employee discounts are not common within the food industry, so that too makes us a unique employer.
It’s our history.
When we first started out in 1980, the success of the company certainly wasn’t guaranteed. In fact, we knew that similar attempts at launching this type of food business had failed. But we had a vision that we believed in, and slowly but surely, consumers grew to know and love the M&M concept. And, we’ve enjoyed steady
success ever since. Read our story here.
It’s recognition in the marketplace.
M&M has been honoured three times as one of Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies. Plus, we’ve won awards from the Canadian Franchise Association (CFA) for excellence in franchise relations, the CFA Hall of Fame award, and numerous company awards for our achievements in marketing, advertising and community relations.
We know it takes more than awards to be a good employer, and that’s why we celebrate and share the honours with our Product Consultants, Franchisees, customers, Head Office and Regional Offices, whose contributions make us the company – and employer – we are.
And of course, it’s our products.
We stake our reputation as a company on our 375+ products. That’s why our commitment to quality and customer satisfaction is unrivalled in
the food industry. Our M&M team of technical and food experts works

side-by-side with suppliers to create new and exciting products, and make sure they consistently live up to M&M standards for quality. If a product doesn’t meet our high standards, then it simply doesn’t make it on our shelves.
It’s this dedication and investment in quality new products, new merchandising techniques and commitment to customer service that contributes to the enthusiasm our customers, employees, Product Consultants and Franchisees share for M&M. |
