Country-Style Italian Sausages
 
Our mildly spiced Italian Sausages are cooked up with sweet peppers and onions in a herbed tomato sauce and topped with cheese. Serve with your favourite pasta and M&M Garlic Bread.

Serves 4-6
 
Ingredients:
 
8 M&M Mild Italian Sausages, thawed
2 tbsp (30 mL) oil
2 cups (500 mL) frozen diced onions
1 each: red and green sweet peppers
1 can (680 mL/24 oz) tomato sauce
1 tsp (5 mL) each: dried basil, oregano
1/3 cup (75 mL) Parmesan cheese
 
Preparation:
 
Cut M&M Mild Italian Sausages diagonally into four pieces. Place in 13 x 9-inch (33 x 23 cm) baking pan. Bake in 375°F (190°C) oven for 12 minutes or until starting to brown. Shake pan half way through.

Meanwhile, in large skillet over medium-high heat, heat oil. Add diced onions and cook, stirring, for 5 minutes. Cut peppers into 1-inch (2.5 cm) pieces. Add to onions; cook for about 3 minutes, stirring, until soft. Stir in herbs; cook for 1 minutes.

Pour onion/pepper mixture over cooked sausages. Pour tomato sauce over peppers. Return to oven; bake for 8 minutes. Sprinkle with cheese; cook until cheese turns golden.
